Itinerary
Lean into the fog instead of fighting it.
Some visitors see fog and think the day is ruined. This route is for the ones who get it. Start at Stonington Harbor early — foggy mornings here are the best mornings. Engine sounds, trap stacks, boats materializing out of nothing. Drive out to Sand Beach Road and stop at the Thorofare Light viewpoint — you probably won't see the tower, but the fog signal pulses every 15 seconds and it's haunting. Continue to Crockett Cove Woods — the moss and lichen glow when it's damp, and the canopy makes the fog feel like you're inside the forest, not just walking through it. End at Sand Beach if the fog is thinning, or loop back to Stonington for lunch and galleries — tap to see your options.
Best for
Foggy days. 3-5 hours. Photographers and anyone who doesn't need sunshine to have a good time.
