When the sandbar is exposed, you cross to Barred Island for one of the best coastal views on Deer Isle — spruce, ledge, and open ocean without another person in sight. Give yourself plenty of time to get back. The crossing isn't a casual beach stroll and the water comes up faster than you'd think.

Check the tide before you drive over. If the window is tight, do Settlement Quarry instead and save this one for tomorrow. Bring shoes you don't mind getting wet.
